Joel Karsten is a graduate from the University of Minnesota earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture Science. He worked in the "Green" industry after graduation while he ran his own landscape design and Installation company in the Minneapolis/St.Paul metro area. He now owns a manufacturing and distribution business but is still a passionate vegetable gardener, often trying new varieties of anything he can fit into the 20 straw bales he has on his limited residential lot in Roseville. He is an avid grower of tulips, dhalias, roses, hostas and day lillies, and is always on the lookout for new introductions. Karsten speaks regularly around the Midwest and has been a keynote speaker for events around the country. He brings a unique blend of inovative ideas, a passion for gardening and an entreprenurial spirit for business. He presents his revolutionary new gardening methods with an engaging style using humor, life lessons and stories that will get every member of the audience excited to try his revolutionary Straw Bale Gardening system. His lastest book for release in March 2013, published by Quayside Publishing's local imprint Cool Springs Press, is titled "Straw Bale Gardens."
